Bead roller and mods.

Post by RewT » 14 Dec 2016, 19:47

This bead roller started out as the Harbor freight 149 special. I have had this machine for over 10 years. straight out of the box, this bead roller is a great tool. But like most tools, they can always be modified to make better. It does come with 3 different size bead roller, 3 different flange sizes and cutting die. I ordered a set of custom dies from Eastwood. I will post up info on the upgraded die set.

I started with reinforcing the back of the u shape to make it more rigid and not flex. I also added a small handle to the tighting bolt on the top of the machine to make it a tool less operation.

The roller is designed to put into a vise for use. and it works that way and I have used it for years like this, but I have now decided to make a mount for it to put on a stand. I am also going to be adding some custom parts to make it a powered roller.

Getting a good deal is no reason to accept sub-par work, since making it right costs more later.
